Open the scammer's profile, channel or message, choose Report, then work through the menu Telegram's server sends back. No option is labelled Scam, so pick the closest match and use the comment field that follows to describe what happened. One detailed filing beats twenty rushed ones.
Telegram's report menu comes from the server, not from your app
Telegram downloads that list of reasons at the moment you tap Report. Telegram's own API reference shows why. The messages.report method takes four inputs, and one of them is an option field the documentation describes as "Menu option, intially empty" — you send nothing, and the server decides what to offer you.
What comes back is one of three states.

Choosing an option does not always finish the job. Telegram's reference for reportResultChooseOption says the user "must choose one of the following options, and then messages.report must be re-invoked", so one menu can hand you another and the path branches according to what you are reporting. That is the mechanical reason two guides published a week apart can show different screens and both be honest about it. Neither author was looking at a fixed list.
Which reasons does Telegram's report list actually contain?
Ten entries make up the documented set, and not one of them is scam or fraud. Telegram's ReportReason reference names spam, violence, pornography, child abuse, copyright, impersonation, illegal drugs, divulgation of personal details, irrelevant geogroups, and other. A telegram scam report has to travel inside one of those.
Three of them carry almost every case in practice. Spam absorbs the mass-DM crypto pitch and the airdrop bot. Impersonation, which the API spells inputReportReasonFake, takes the account wearing someone else's face. Other collects everything that is plainly a confidence trick without fitting either, and that is where most investment fraud ends up.
Here is where a telegram scammer report usually goes wrong. Someone hunts for a Scam entry, fails to find one, picks whichever label sits nearest the top of the list, and never writes down what the account actually did. That label works as a coarse filter. It decides which queue the case lands in and very little else, which is why the next section matters more than this one.
How to report scam on Telegram, step by step
This sequence reaches a moderator with usable information attached, and it works from any client.
- Screenshot before you touch anything. Capture the messages, the profile, the @username and any wallet address or payment reference, then crop your own handle out of the frames.
- Open the object you are reporting. A single message, a profile, a channel, a group and a bot are five separate targets.
- Choose Report from the menu. On Android that is a tap, on iOS a press and hold, on desktop and web a right-click.
- Read the options the server returns instead of scanning for the word scam, then match the behaviour to the nearest label.
- Use the comment box when it appears. This is the only free text in the entire flow.
- Block afterwards, never before.
Why reporting scammers in bulk does not help
People asking how to report telegram scammers in bulk want a shortcut at step four. None exists, and none is needed: a case is decided on what a reviewer can verify, not on how many filings arrive. The arithmetic behind that sits on how many reports ban a channel.
The comment box is the only part of a report you write yourself
Everything before it is a menu. Each option, per the messageReportOption constructor, carries an "Option title" and an identifier and nothing else, so you are selecting from a list rather than describing anything. Then reportResultAddComment asks the user to "enter an additional comment for the moderators". That sentence is the whole opportunity.
A useful comment is short and checkable. Name what the account did, give the date, and point at something a reviewer can open: the channel where the pitch was posted, the pinned message promising returns, the second account that vouched for the first. Adjectives do nothing here. A reviewer cannot verify that a person is a fraudster, but they can verify that a pinned post promises 12% daily and that the same payment address has been reposted across four channels.
When we filed a batch of investment-channel cases in March, the ones that moved named a specific post and a specific date, while the ones written as complaints sat untouched. That is a small sample rather than a promise. It does match what the API is built to collect, though: the menu sorts, and the comment persuades.

@NoToScam is the row worth getting right, because nearly every page ranking for telegram scam reporting gets it wrong the same way. Telegram's FAQ scopes the bot in one sentence: "If a scammer is pretending to be you, contact @NoToScam." It is an impersonation desk. Two of the largest guides on this query reproduce the bot's own display name, Report Impersonation, in their screenshots and then tell readers to send every category of fraud to it. Can you report a Telegram scammer by phone number?
No public route accepts one. Nothing on Telegram's FAQ, its safety page or the EU notice form takes a phone number as the subject of a report, and no form anywhere looks up an account from a number you type in.
That gap is structural rather than an oversight. A report attaches to an object — a message, a profile, a channel — and the identifier travelling with it is the @username or the t.me link. A number identifies a person, and Telegram's moderators are not reviewing people. They are reviewing what was posted.

The recurring version, visible in public question-and-answer threads, is "someone is using my phone number on their Telegram account", and that is impersonation, which genuinely does have a desk. Send that case to @NoToScam with evidence that the number belongs to you. How do you report a scam channel, group or bot instead of a person?
Whichever object you pick decides the route, and a scam run through a channel is usually the stronger of the two cases, because its evidence is public and it stays put. A one-to-one chat offers a reviewer your word and a screenshot. A channel offers them a pinned post, a subscriber count and a posting history they can read for themselves.

What happens after you report a Telegram scam?
Nothing visible, which is the honest answer and the reason this question outnumbers all the others. Telegram sends no acknowledgement, no case reference and no outcome notice. Its safety page showed 25,940,590 groups and channels blocked during 2026 when we read it on 18 September 2026, a counter that resets each January. Named totals go only to partner organisations filing in bulk: 16,965 items between July and December 2025, of which Stichting Offlimits alone accounted for 13,839. Your report sits inside the larger number somewhere and is never itemised, which is why no confirmation ever arrives.
Two visible outcomes do exist, and deletion is neither of them. An account can be limited, which leaves it able to message only people who already have its number saved. Or it can be labelled, since the red SCAM and FAKE badges are server-set flags on the account record, and what they actually mean is set out on the Telegram scammer list page. A label warns the next person. It does not remove anyone.
What usually follows is that the channel goes private, and that is not the report failing. It is the operator losing the public surface that was earning them subscribers. Where should you report a Telegram scam once money has moved?
Telegram removes the account. It does not recover funds, and no route inside the app pretends otherwise. Once a payment has left, a second set of filings begins, and these run in parallel rather than in sequence.
- Your bank or card issuer, first and fastest, since card payments can often be charged back while crypto transfers generally cannot.
- In the United States, the FBI's IC3 for the crime report and ReportFraud.ftc.gov for the consumer complaint.

In practice that means canonicalising the target to a stable @username or t.me link, sorting the material into what a reviewer can open without your help, and writing the comment field so the claim is checkable inside a minute.
Scope stays narrow on purpose. Telegram Ban Service files and escalates reports about genuine Terms of Service, Community Guidelines or legal breaches, and the removal decision belongs to Telegram's moderators. Accounts operating within the rules are never targeted, and volume filing is declined outright, because coordinated flooding is itself a Terms of Service problem and gets discounted rather than counted. Is a Telegram scam report anonymous?
Telegram does not notify the reported account and does not show it who filed. Its documentation never uses the word anonymous, though, so treat the report as unannounced rather than guaranteed. In a one-to-one chat the other party can often infer who reported them, and the email routes send from your own address.
How long does Telegram take to act after you report a scam?
No service level is published, and no honest number exists. A report joins a queue where a human has to confirm a Terms of Service breach first, so treat same-day removal as the exception rather than the benchmark.
How do you report a Telegram contact as a scam artist?

Keep the original t.me link. Going private strips the operator of the public surface they were recruiting through, so the move costs them more than it costs you. How many reports does a scam account need before Telegram acts?
No number is published, and the figures circulating online trace back to vendor blogs rather than to Telegram. A moderator confirming one breach is what moves a case.
Can you report a Telegram scammer without a Telegram account?
Not through the in-app route, which requires being signed in. The email addresses are open to anyone, so [email protected] will accept a report about illegal public content from a non-user, provided the message includes the link and a clear written explanation of what is wrong.
Does Telegram confirm that your scam report was received?
