How to report a YouTube ad, and report scam ads on YouTube that keep coming back

To report a YouTube ad, tap Sponsored on the ad on your phone, or click More or Info on a computer, then choose Report ad and fill in the short form. The advertiser never sees who reported it. If the ad has already disappeared, Google's ad complaint form takes the link instead.

The trouble with an ad is that it's gone in fifteen seconds. You see a famous investor "giving away" crypto, or a clinic promising a cure, and by the time you reach for the phone the next video has started. So the first thing to know is where the button lives on each screen, and the second is what to do when the ad has already vanished. A third case looks like an ad but isn't one: a creator reading a sponsor script without saying so. That one takes a different report.

Where is the Report ad button on each screen?

The button sits on the ad itself, behind the Sponsored label on phones and behind More or Info on computers. YouTube's help page on reporting inappropriate content says ads can only be reported on mobile or on a computer, so a smart TV or console has no button at all.

How to report YouTube ads in the app, step by step

On a phone, report it while it's still on screen. Pause first if you can: tapping the video stops most in-stream ads. Then tap Sponsored on the ad, tap Report ad, pick the reason that fits best and submit the form. Three taps, and the ad is in a reviewer's queue.

YouTube's wording for what happens next is plain: the team "will review your ad report and act if appropriate". That covers how to report youtube ads on Android and iPhone alike, and it's the same path for a banner over a video, an ad in search results or one in the Shorts feed. If you only want it gone from your own screen, Block ad sits in the same menu, but blocking hides it for you and does nothing to the advertiser.

How to report a YouTube ad on PC

On a computer, YouTube's help page on ads gives two clicks: click More or Info on the ad, then select Report ad. That is how to report a youtube ad on pc in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. Video ads show the Info icon in the lower corner while they play; display ads beside the video carry the three-dot More button. Once the ad has finished, the menu goes with it, which is why it pays to pause at the first sign of a fake giveaway.

Clicking Report ad opens a panel inside My Ad Center. You don't have to change any ad settings to use it. Anyone asking how to report a youtube ad on a laptop or a work PC follows the same steps; signing in isn't the obstacle it is for video reports, though a signed-in report is easier for Google to tie to a view.

How to report scam ads on YouTube once they've gone

Use Google's ad complaint form. YouTube's own help points there when you can't report from the ad, or when an ad was missed by Google's review. When we went through the form on 19 October 2026, it asked for three things: which kind of problem, the ad or listing link, and comments. The first option is "It's misleading or a scam", which Google says covers false claims, impersonation, phishing, clickbait and inaccurate pricing.

The link is the hard part. If you clicked through, copy the landing page address from the browser history. If you didn't, write down the advertiser name shown under the ad and the time you saw it, and put both in the comments. Then add your email. It's optional, but Google says it's needed to get updates and to appeal the outcome. Its own promise is a confirmation email in a few minutes and a review "over the next several days". That route is how to report scam youtube ads, report youtube scam ads and how to report youtube ads scams that only played once.

How to report YouTube ads impersonation of you, a celebrity or a brand

Pick the scam option and say who is being faked. Google's Misrepresentation policy bans "Impersonating other brands or businesses in your ads" and ads that pretend to be backed by a brand or government body. It treats both as egregious: the advertiser is suspended "upon detection and without prior warning", and the policy says reinstatement happens only in compelling circumstances.

For how to report youtube ads impersonation of a public figure, put the real person's official channel or website in the comments, so a reviewer can compare in one glance. If the brand is yours, Google's trademark complaint is stronger than a scam report; the Meta version of that filing is in our walk-through of Instagram's trademark report. Fake ads usually have a social side too. The same faces turn up on X and Instagram, where X's impersonation report and what to do when an Instagram account pretends to be you cover the forms.

How to report a YouTube ad as inappropriate, offensive or false

Choose the reason closest to what you saw. On the complaint form, "It's harmful, violent, or dangerous" covers hate, bullying and weapons; "It contains sexual content" covers nudity and suggestive images; "It promotes a restricted product or service" covers gambling, alcohol, healthcare and financial products sold outside the rules. That is how to report a youtube ad as inappropriate, how to report youtube ads as offensive and how to report an inappropriate ad on youtube when a family account keeps getting adult ads.

How to report YouTube ads for false information

False claims are trickier. A miracle diet or a "guaranteed" return belongs under the misleading option, since Google's policy lists "inaccurate claims or claims that entice the user with an improbable result". For how to report youtube ads for false information about elections or health, quote the exact claim in the comments and, if you can, link the official source that contradicts it. Reviewers judge the ad against the policy, not against your opinion of it.

Can you report a YouTube ad anonymously?

Yes, as far as the advertiser is concerned. YouTube's help page says "Reporting content is anonymous, so other users can't tell who made the report." Advertisers get a policy notice about their ad, not your name. Google itself still knows which signed-in account sent an in-app report, and the complaint form notes that some account and system information is sent with it.

So how to report a youtube ad anonymously, in the fullest sense, means the complaint form without signing in and with the email box left empty. The cost is that you won't hear what happened and can't appeal. For most scam ads that trade-off is fine. If you want to know the result, leave the email; the advertiser still never sees it. Other platforms handle reporter identity in a similar way, as what X tells someone you reported explains.

How to report undisclosed ads on YouTube inside videos

A sponsorship read by the creator isn't a Google ad, so Report ad doesn't apply. YouTube's paid product placement rules say creators "have to let YouTube know by selecting the paid promotion button", which adds a disclosure label at the start of the video. The help page offers viewers no special report for a missing label. The practical route is to report the video itself under the spam or misleading reason and say in the notes that the paid promotion isn't disclosed.

In the US the creator has a legal duty too. The FTC's guide for influencers says to disclose "any financial, employment, personal, or family relationship with a brand", and warns not to assume a platform's disclosure tool is good enough. So how to report undisclosed ads on youtube has two answers: the video report to YouTube, and a complaint to the FTC when the hidden deal is serious.

Does reporting a YouTube advert change anything?

More than people expect. Google's 2025 Ads Safety Report, published 16 April 2026, says it blocked or removed over 8.3 billion ads and suspended 24.9 million advertiser accounts that year. Of those, 602 million ads and 4 million accounts were tied to scams. It also says it acted on more than four times as many user reports in 2025 as in the year before.

Report scam ads on YouTube: Google removed 8.3 billion ads in 2025, 602 million of them tied to scams

Most of that is caught by automated review before anyone sees the ad. What gets through tends to be newer tricks, such as deepfaked faces and cloaked landing pages, and that's where a report helps. One honest report a day is how anyone should report a youtube advert; asking friends to mass-report an ad you merely dislike won't speed anything up, because Google reviews the ad against its policy either way.

When the ad sends you to Telegram or another app

Many scam ads on YouTube don't sell anything on the landing page. They push you to a Telegram group or WhatsApp chat, where a "mentor" takes over. Report the ad to Google, then report the group or channel on Telegram too, because removing the ad leaves the chat running. If a stranger from one of these groups asks for the login code Telegram just sent you, stop: that is an account takeover, and Telegram's "limit exceeded" warning often follows. Sellers of "rare handles" use the same ads, so check how Telegram usernames really change hands before paying anyone.

The same scam faces on X and Instagram

The accounts that amplify these ads on X are often bots, and clearing bots from your X replies cuts the noise. One fake post is a job for reporting a single tweet; a whole fake profile is a job for reporting an account on X. Repeat offenders can lose the account, as how X decides to suspend someone and when X removes an account for good explain. On Instagram, the menu for reporting a person on Instagram does the same. If a scammer moves to threats, such as fake "leaked photos", treat it as extortion and read how to report blackmail on Instagram.

FAQ

Does the advertiser find out I reported their YouTube ad?

No. YouTube says reporting is anonymous, so other users can't tell who made the report. The advertiser gets a policy notice about the ad, not your name. Google still knows which account sent an in-app report.

Can I report a YouTube ad on my TV?

Not from the TV. YouTube says ads can only be reported on mobile or on a computer. Note the advertiser name and the time, then use Google's ad complaint form from your phone or computer.

What if I can't find the scam ad again?

Use Google's ad complaint form. Pick the misleading or scam option, paste any link you have, such as the landing page from your browser history, and describe the advertiser name and what the ad promised.

How long does Google take to review a reported ad?

Google's complaint form says you'll get a confirmation email in a few minutes and that it reviews reports over the next several days. In-app reports carry no published time frame.

Is blocking a YouTube ad the same as reporting it?

No. Block ad only hides that ad from you, and it needs ad personalisation turned on in My Ad Center. Report ad sends it to Google's reviewers, who can remove it or suspend the advertiser.

How do I report an inappropriate ad on YouTube that a child saw?

Use the same Report ad steps on the phone or computer the child was using, and pick the sexual content or harmful option. Say in the comments that a child saw it, and include the time so the reviewer can match the ad.

Where do I report a creator who hides a paid sponsorship?

Report the video itself, not an ad, and say in the notes that the paid promotion isn't disclosed. In the US you can also tell the FTC, whose influencer guide says paid relationships must be disclosed.
