Buy Telegram usernames: what Fragment charges and which sellers to avoid

You can buy Telegram usernames in one official place: Fragment, the marketplace Telegram's own FAQ points to. Names sell there by auction or at a fixed price, paid in Grams, the coin formerly called Toncoin. On 12 October 2026 fixed-price names started near $9, unclaimed names near $160, and four-character names near $8,000.

Buy Telegram usernames on Fragment: the six statuses a name can show and what each one lets a buyer do

The usual way this goes wrong is simple. Someone finds a channel with a price list, sends money to a stranger, and only afterwards asks whether the name was ever real. To have something firmer than opinion, on 12 October 2026 we downloaded Fragment's three listing tabs, 500 rows each, and opened the pages of 12 separate names without connecting a wallet. The numbers below come from that read. They show what a name costs today, which names cannot be bought by anyone, and how to tell in about a minute whether the person in your messages has anything to sell.

Where can you buy Telegram usernames without trusting a stranger?

On Fragment, and nowhere else with Telegram's backing. Telegram introduced collectible usernames in a November 2022 update, and its help pages still send buyers to the same site. The Telegram FAQ splits names into two kinds. Basic usernames are free and "distributed on a first-come – first-serve basis". Collectible usernames are recorded on the TON blockchain and can change hands. Of the second kind the FAQ says: "We cannot assign collectible usernames, they can only be managed by their respective owners."

That sentence matters for anyone weighing a Telegram username purchase. Telegram support cannot sell you a name, hand one over, or reverse a deal. A collectible moves only when the wallet holding it signs a transfer or a sale. Fragment is run by Fragment Corp., a Seychelles company according to its terms, not by Telegram itself.

Searches such as "buy telegram username fragment" and "buy telegram username ton" describe one and the same route. The only wrinkle is the coin's name. Fragment's About page now prices everything in Grams ($GRAM), which is the TON blockchain's coin under the name it took in June 2026. Older guides call it Toncoin. A message asking you to "convert" or "migrate" coins before you can bid is a scam, because the rename needed nothing from holders.

Is there a Telegram username price checker?

Yes, and it is Fragment's own search box. Type any name at fragment.com, or open fragment.com/username/ followed by the name, and the page returns one of six statuses with a price where one exists. No third-party Telegram username price checker has better data, because they all read that page. We looked up 12 names and saw every status at least once.

StatusWhat we saw on 12 October 2026What a buyer can do
Available@qzvk, minimum bid 5,525 Grams (about $8,001)Place the first bid and start a 7-day auction
On auction@known, highest bid 10,000, bid step 5%, next bid 10,500Outbid by at least the step before the timer ends
For sale@zotena, sell price 7 Grams (about $10.14)Pay the fixed price; no auction
Sold@news, 994,000 Grams, 18 November 2022Nothing, unless the owner relists it
Taken@durov, with earlier offers listed on the pagePay a small fee to send the owner an offer
Unavailable@telegram and two random strings beginning with q and wNothing. It is "not for sale"

The last row catches people out. For our two random strings Fragment said the name "will be put up for auction later this year" and that only usernames starting with letters A to Q "have been currently made available by Telegram". Yet a search for three letters starting with x returned names with a 111-Gram minimum bid, so the cut-off isn't a clean alphabet line. Check the exact name. If the page says Unavailable, no seller on earth can deliver it.

What is the Telegram username price range today?

Wider than most guides admit. The cheapest names on Fragment's For sale tab were listed at 6 and 7 Grams, roughly $9 to $10. Names of five characters or more that nobody holds yet opened at a minimum bid of 111 Grams, about $160. An unclaimed four-character name opened at 5,525 Grams, about $8,001. Fragment showed its own dollar conversion beside each figure, which worked out near $1.45 per Gram that morning.

Telegram username price ladder on Fragment, 12 October 2026, from 6 Grams up to the 1,583,948 record sale

The auction tab tells you what buyers are paying, as opposed to what owners hope for. Sorted from the highest price down, it returned 500 live auctions, and each row shows the next bid needed to take the lead. Half of them needed 118 Grams or less, about $171. The list hadn't run out at its 110-Gram bottom row either; a separate search turned up an auction at 31. The 60 four-character names in the set needed between 5,361 and 6,195. The dearest was @telepath at 15,750 Grams, about $22,811.

Asking prices are another matter. Sort the Telegram usernames for sale from high to low and the first row reads 1,337,133,713 Grams for @yyy1337. The 500th row still asks 450,300. Almost none of these will sell. An asking price costs the owner nothing to type, so the For sale tab works as a menu of hopes. When someone quotes you a figure for a Telegram username for sale, compare it with the auction tab and with past sales of similar names, not with other listings.

Which rare Telegram usernames sold for the most?

Short dictionary words, mostly in the first weeks. Fragment's Sold tab, sorted by price, returned its 500 highest sales, and every one cleared 23,000 Grams. Of those, 351 closed in 2022, the launch year. Another 35 closed in 2023, 29 in 2024, 19 in 2025 and 66 so far in 2026. Four-character names account for 204 of the 500.

Rare Telegram usernames: the 500 highest Fragment sales by year sold and by name length, as listed on 12 October 2026

The record changed this year. @news held it from 18 November 2022 at 994,000 Grams, ahead of @auto at 900,000 and @bank at 850,000. On 7 February 2026 a six-character name, @danbao, went for 1,583,948. @polymarket followed at 354,900 on 1 August 2026. So rare Telegram usernames still fetch six figures when a buyer with a business reason turns up, but the 2022 rush hasn't repeated.

One listing sums up the gap between asking and getting. The name @rare was on the For sale tab at 888,888,888 Grams. Nobody has paid within a factor of 500 of that for anything. Treat "rare" as a seller's word. Length, a real word and a brand that wants it are what the sale records reward.

A Fragment Telegram username sale, step by step

A Fragment Telegram username sale runs through a wallet, never through a chat. People phrase the search as "buy telegram handle", "buy tg username", "telegram usernames buy" or "telegram buy usernames", and the steps are identical whichever words they use. Fragment's own instructions, read on 12 October 2026, come to this:

  1. Create a TON wallet. Fragment names Tonkeeper and MyTonWallet. Write the recovery words down. Fragment states it cannot restore a lost wallet.
  2. Fund it with Grams. Buy from an exchange or receive them from another wallet. Some exchanges ask for ID.
  3. Connect the wallet and your Telegram account. Use the Connect TON and Connect Telegram buttons on fragment.com, typed into the address bar by hand.
  4. Open the name's page. Bid on an auction, start one on an Available name, or pay the fixed price on a For sale name.
  5. Wait out the auction. The first bid starts a 7-day clock. If you are outbid, Fragment says "your money will be returned to you".
  6. Assign the name. In My Assets choose Assign to Telegram and pick your profile, group or channel.
  7. Switch it on. Assignment alone doesn't activate the link. For a profile it is Settings, Username, Enable; for a group or channel it sits under Links order.

A profile, group or channel can carry one basic username and any number of collectibles. The choice of chat isn't permanent, so a name bought for a channel can later move to a profile.

Fees on a Telegram username sale, beyond the price

Less than people fear, with one exception. Fragment charges a 5% platform fee on each sale, taken from the seller's proceeds, and blockchain fees of around 1 Gram. A basic username converted for its first auction pays a one-off 5-Gram conversion fee. The exception is bots: assigning a collectible to a bot needs a permanent upgrade that costs 1,000 Grams, about $1,450 at that day's rate. The bigger risk is finality. Fragment's terms of service say ownership "cannot be revoked, even by Company", and so "all purchases are non-refundable". A mistyped bid stays a bid.

Is a Telegram username seller in your messages safe to pay?

Only if the deal ends on Fragment. A real Telegram username seller either lists the name there, where you pay the page and not the person, or transfers the collectible from their wallet. Every collectible's page shows its owner's wallet and its transfer history, so ask the seller to prove control of that wallet. Someone holding a basic name can list it too: Fragment lets any owner put a basic username up for auction with a minimum bid, and the name becomes a collectible when the auction ends.

The offers that go wrong share a pattern. The seller wants payment outside Fragment, sends a link or a mini app that looks like Fragment, and asks you to connect a wallet or type your recovery words. Victims who wrote up these cases describe a page that copies the real one closely. The reverse scam targets owners: a stranger offers a generous sum for your channel's name, then steers you to a fake page that drains the wallet you connect. Fragment's real offers arrive anonymously through the site, and neither side learns the other's Telegram ID.

  • The name shows Unavailable or Taken on Fragment, yet the seller says they can "release" it.
  • The price is far below the minimum bid shown on the name's own page.
  • You are asked for a login code, a cloud password or wallet words.
  • A "guarantor" or "middleman" account is proposed to hold the money.

If you already shared a login code, treat the account as compromised and follow the first steps after a Telegram account is hacked before anything else. People who were logged out and can't get back in should read how Telegram account recovery works when the number or code is the problem. If the account has been limited since the deal, what a frozen Telegram account can and cannot do covers the read-only state, and appealing a banned Telegram account covers a full ban. Report the scam seller from their profile and to @notoscam with the chat and the payment record.

Do you have to pay for a Telegram username at all?

Often not. Telegram's FAQ describes a free claim for basic names: if the one you want is taken and isn't a collectible, Telegram can help you acquire it provided you hold that same username on at least two of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The request goes to @Username_bot. The same passage says Telegram reserves the right to recall usernames "assigned to unused bots and channels, as well as openly squatted usernames".

So a brand with matching handles elsewhere should try the claim before opening a wallet. A name that someone is using to pose as you is a third case, and it calls for a report, not a purchase. The FAQ's instruction is short: "If a scammer is pretending to be you, please contact @NoToScam." Paying an impersonator for the name rewards the behaviour and gives you nothing Telegram would not have removed.

One housekeeping point for people tidying up afterwards. A collectible is tied to the wallet that bought it and only assigned to a chat, so closing the account doesn't destroy it. Before you go that far, read what deleting a Telegram account removes for good.

What if the username seller found you on Instagram or X?

Then there are two reports to file, because the advert and the Telegram account answer to different companies. Handle sellers often advertise on Instagram and X and close the deal on Telegram. The Telegram side goes to Telegram. The advert side depends on what the account did.

On Instagram, a fake shop that took your money fits reporting a scammer on Instagram. If the complaint is about one advert, use the steps for reporting a single Instagram post; if the whole profile exists to sell names, see how an Instagram page report differs from a post report. Reporting a person on Instagram walks through the menu choices. Many buyers hold back because they fear the seller will learn who complained, and whether Instagram tells the account who reported it settles that. Reported the wrong account by accident? Undoing an Instagram report explains what can be taken back.

Sellers who trade on someone else's identity need different forms. A profile posing as you or as your company is covered in Instagram impersonation and who may report it. A brand name used to sell handles falls under the Instagram trademark infringement form, copied artwork or screenshots under an Instagram DMCA takedown notice, and a case with a court order behind it under Instagram's route for legal requests. If your photo was lifted to make the seller look trustworthy, start with a picture of you posted without permission.

Disputes over a paid name can turn ugly. Threats and repeated abuse belong in an Instagram harassment report. A seller who demands more money to keep quiet about you is a matter for Instagram's blackmail and sextortion reporting. For realistic outcomes, read what gets an Instagram account taken down and why nobody can delete another person's Instagram account directly.

A warning about paying a second stranger to fix the first. Instagram ban services and paid Instagram account removal can file reports and nothing more, and the scripts described in Instagram mass report bots from GitHub and Telegram get discounted by the platform.

X works on the same split. What happens after you report someone on Twitter sets out the review, and the rule breaks that get an X account suspended shows which reports carry weight against a scam seller. For an account that breaks several rules at once, see the lawful ways to take down a Twitter account. The limits of Twitter ban services are the same as on Instagram.

FAQ

Can I buy a Telegram username directly from Telegram?

No. Telegram hands out basic usernames free and does not sell them. Collectible usernames are bought and sold on Fragment, and Telegram's FAQ says it cannot assign them because only their owners can manage them.

What is the cheapest Telegram username for sale on Fragment?

On 12 October 2026 the lowest fixed-price listings on Fragment's For sale tab were 6 and 7 Grams, roughly $9 to $10. They were long or random-looking names. An unclaimed name of five or more characters opened at a minimum bid of 111 Grams, about $160.

Can I buy a four-letter Telegram username?

Yes, but only as a collectible. The Telegram app asks for at least five characters when you set a basic username. On Fragment an unclaimed four-character name we checked opened at a minimum bid of 5,525 Grams, about $8,001 that day.

Do I need crypto for a Telegram username purchase?

Yes. Fragment takes payment only in Grams, the TON blockchain coin that used to be called Toncoin, sent from a TON wallet such as Tonkeeper or MyTonWallet. There is no card checkout on the name's page.

Can I get a refund after a Telegram username sale?

No. Fragment's terms say ownership cannot be revoked, even by the company, and that all purchases are non-refundable. A bid that loses an auction is returned automatically, but a completed sale stays completed.

Someone messaged me offering to buy my username. Is the offer real?

Check it on Fragment yourself. Real offers are made through the name's page and forwarded anonymously, so a genuine buyer has no need to send you a link, a mini app or a request to connect your wallet. Type fragment.com by hand and look at the name's page for offers.

Are 'buy Telegram handle' and 'buy tg username' offers the same thing?

Yes. Handle, tg username and username all mean the @name that forms a t.me link. Whatever the advert calls it, the name is either a free basic username or a collectible on Fragment, and the name's page on Fragment shows which.

What can I do if a username I want is taken but unused?

If it is a basic username and you hold the same name on at least two of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, Telegram's FAQ says you can ask @Username_bot for it. If it is a collectible, the only route is an offer or a purchase from its owner.
