How to report a Telegram channel as a whole, not one post at a time
Open the channel, tap its name and choose Report from the profile menu. That files the channel itself, not one post. Then report two or three of its worst posts too: Telegram's whole-channel report method carries a reason and a comment, but no posts, so the evidence has to travel separately.
Telegram has two report doors, and only one takes the whole channel
Telegram's developer documentation lists two report methods with different payloads. The messages.report method handles posts: its id field takes the IDs of the reported messages, and an empty list bounces with MESSAGE_REQUIRED, "A non-empty list of IDs must be passed to id." Whole channels go through account.reportPeer, "Report a peer for violation of telegram's Terms of Service", where a peer is any channel, group, bot or account. It takes three inputs: the peer, a reason, and a "Comment for report moderation".
Nothing else rides along.
Most guides treat the profile-level Report as a stronger version of the post-level one, which is where whole-channel reports go wrong. A moderator opening a peer report gets a channel name, one reason and whatever you typed, then has to find the breach unaided in a feed that may run to thousands of posts. A post report is the mirror image: the evidence arrives pre-selected, but nothing in it says the channel exists for that purpose rather than having slipped once. Which method an app sends from its profile menu is not documented, and the flow has changed between versions, so the dependable habit is to file both: the channel from its profile, then the two or three posts that prove the point, with their links pasted into the comment box whenever one appears.
Two smaller targets sit beside those. A profile photo has its own method, account.reportProfilePhoto, "Report a profile photo of a dialog". A Telegraph article, one of the long-form pages Telegram hosts at telegra.ph, carries a report link at its foot.

How to report a Telegram channel from its profile, step by step
Five minutes of preparation decides whether the report can be reviewed at all, so the order below puts evidence first. A channel can go private or change its handle while you are still in the menu.
- Copy the channel's t.me link and @username into a note, then copy the links of the two or three posts that show the breach most plainly (Copy Link, or Copy Post Link on desktop).
- Screenshot the channel header and those posts, then crop your own name and username out of every frame.
- Open the channel and tap its name at the top to reach the profile. Open the menu there: three dots on Android and desktop, More on iPhone.
- Choose Report. Read every option before picking one, because the labels differ between apps and versions.
- If a comment box appears, paste the post links and write one dated sentence on what the channel does.
- Report those posts individually as well, under the same reason.
Leave or mute the channel only after the last step. A channel has no block button of the kind accounts have, and leaving a private one can put it out of reach before you have finished.
How to report a group in Telegram on iPhone
On an iPhone the group-level option sits under More: tap the group's name at the top of the chat, tap More in the profile header, then Report. A single post takes a different gesture, which Telegram's FAQ gives as "On iOS, press and hold the message." If your build shows no Report entry in the profile, that message route works in every Telegram app.
Can you report a Telegram group without joining it?
Yes, if the group is public; a private group can only be reported from inside or by email. Telegram's own error list draws the line. The whole-peer report fails with CHANNEL_PRIVATE, "You haven't joined this channel/supergroup.", and apart from an invalid ID that is its only refusal. A public group resolves from its @username without membership, so its t.me link opens a preview with a Join button, and nothing in the method requires pressing it first.
The browser version is a dead end. When Telegram Ban Service opened the public web preview at t.me/s/telegram on 21 September 2026, we saw a Join button and a View in Telegram link under each post, and no report control anywhere on the page. Reporting starts in the app.
Report a Telegram group link someone sent you
Read the link before you tap it. A t.me/groupname link points at a public group you can report from its preview. One beginning t.me/+ or t.me/joinchat/ is a private invite, which shows the title and member count but still needs you inside for an in-app report, and post links from a private channel, written t.me/c/ followed by numbers, open only for members. If joining is out of the question, email the invite link to [email protected] with dated screenshots. Telegram does not document how it reviews a private group reported from outside, so the screenshots carry more of the case.
Is a supergroup reported any differently from a group?
No: the Report entry, the reasons and the routes are identical, because underneath, a supergroup is a channel. Telegram's API documentation on channels says supergroups "are actually channels", stored as the same object with a megagroup flag switched on. They hold up to 200,000 members, while the older basic groups stop at 200, and apps migrate a basic group automatically the moment an admin reaches for a supergroup-only feature.
That clears up a claim still ranking for report a telegram supergroup. A widely linked guide dated May 2025 says a message in a basic group becomes reportable only after an upgrade. Telegram's FAQ now states that "All Telegram apps have 'Report' buttons", and neither report method treats the two kinds of group differently. Gigagroups, "something between a channel and a supergroup" in the same documentation, follow the same path.
Which Telegram page are you reporting for illegal content?
Three different things get called a Telegram page, and each reports somewhere else. A channel or group's page inside the app is reported from its profile menu, plus [email protected] when the material is illegal rather than merely against the rules. The web preview at t.me/s/ followed by a name has no report control, so that one goes through the app or an email with the URL.
The third is easy to miss. Telegraph, Telegram's publishing tool, hosts standalone articles at telegra.ph, and a channel can post one as a link. Each article has a "Report content on this page" link at its foot, opening a dialog titled Report Page with six reasons: Violence, Child Abuse, Copyright, Illegal Drugs, Personal Details and Other. Copyright is routed away from it, toward DMCA requests at [email protected]. On the article at telegra.ph/api, checked on 21 September 2026, those six were the full list.
Search is the last route. If a page is being found through Telegram's search, the official @SearchReport bot takes reports of the search terms themselves, according to Telegram's safety page. Which intake suits which kind of illegal material is laid out on the illegal-content routes.
How do you report a group in Telegram with email?
Write to [email protected], which Telegram's FAQ calls its "automated takedown email address", and lead with the group's link rather than a description of it. The word automated is a hint: give the address something it can open. A useful message contains four things.
- The t.me link or @username of the group, plus links to the specific posts.
- One or two sentences on what the content is and which law or Telegram rule it breaks.
- The date and time of each post, with your time zone.
- Screenshots, cropped so your own name is not in them.
Keep to one group per email. Copyright goes to [email protected] instead, and only from the rights holder or someone acting for them, a route with limits of its own that are set out in what a DMCA notice can reach. Child sexual abuse material goes to [email protected] and to the police. Users in the European Union also have a formal notice form at telegram.org/dsa-report, which asks for your name and contact details plus "a clear and convincing explanation" of why the content is illegal, according to Telegram's EU terms.
Can you report a group without them knowing?
Yes, provided you use Telegram's own Report button, which goes to Telegram's moderators rather than to the group's admins. Telegram's FAQ describes those buttons as a way to "flag illegal content for our moderators", and its documentation describes no alert to the reported group. People trying to work out how to report a group in Telegram without them knowing usually give themselves away through something else:
- Typing /report or @admin inside the group. That is an ordinary message: every member sees it and who sent it, and the admin bots that listen for it forward it to the group's admins.
- Posting screenshots somewhere public with your own name still in the frame.
- Being one of five members of a private group that has just been reported. Nobody is told, but the arithmetic is short.
- Emailing Telegram, which shows your address to Telegram rather than to the group.
When should a Telegram group go to the police instead?
Go to the police as well as Telegram when the group involves money you lost, a threat against someone, or sexual images of a child. Telegram can remove the group; only a police case can attach a person to it. Which agency depends on where you live:
- United States: the FBI's IC3 for online fraud and other internet crime, local police for threats, and the NCMEC CyberTipline at report.cybertip.org for anything involving a child.
- United Kingdom: Report Fraud, which replaced Action Fraud on 4 December 2025, for fraud; 999 for immediate danger and 101 for other crimes.
- Everywhere else: your national police, given the same evidence you sent Telegram.
The two filings do different jobs, and Telegram's privacy policy shows why. Section 8.3, "Law Enforcement Authorities", updated on 21 August 2026, says Telegram may disclose a suspect's IP address and phone number, but only after a valid order from a judicial authority and its own legal analysis of the request. That clause gets used: Telegram handed over data on 22,777 users in the first three months of 2025, against 5,826 in the same quarter of 2024, 404 Media reported, 1,664 of them for US requests. Ban, block, label or delete: what getting a Telegram channel banned can mean
Searches like ban telegram channel, ban telegram account and how to ban a telegram group read as one request. They point at four or five different actions held by different people, so match the word to the lever before filing anything.

The account behind a channel is a separate target. How to ban a telegram account, in the platform sense, means reporting that account from its own profile, the same peer report pointed at a user, with the evidence standard covered under reporting the person behind it. Groups follow channels, so how to get a telegram group banned has the same answer, and report volume plays no part in either, which is the whole argument of the report-count myth.
Can you get someone's Telegram channel deleted?
Not directly. Deletion is an owner's action: Telegram's deleteChannel method answers anyone else with CHAT_ADMIN_REQUIRED, "You must be an admin in this chat to do this." What an outsider can obtain is Telegram's own enforcement, which its EU terms describe as the power to "block or delete users, bots, posts, channels and groups". For most people typing how to get someones telegram channel deleted, apostrophe or not, a block is the outcome they want anyway, since the channel stops opening for everyone. Removing a channel you run yourself is a different job, covered under deleting a channel you own.
Banning a member when you run the group
Most people asking how to ban telegram group members are admins, and they need no report at all. Open the member's profile from the group and remove them, or restrict what they can do instead; either one covers that single chat and applies immediately. Why is the channel still up after you reported it?
Usually because no moderator has confirmed a breach yet, and Telegram does not tell reporters either way. The scale explains the silence. Telegram's safety page counted 26,172,296 groups and channels blocked during 2026 on 21 September, 231,706 more than it showed on 18 September; 417,184 of the year's blocks involved child abuse material and 177,627 were terrorist communities. Moderation there, the page says, "has combined user reports with proactive monitoring powered by machine learning." One report is a single input into that system and never receives an itemised reply.
A quieter reason is that a restriction can be partial. Telegram's restrictionReason object carries a platform field, "ios, android, wp, all, etc.", and a text field, "Error message to be shown to the user", so a channel can be closed on one kind of phone and still open on another, with the notice worded on Telegram's side. When ProPublica asked Telegram about a set of channels in July 2021, 10 of them went dark behind the notice "This channel can't be displayed because it violated Telegram's Terms of Service," the newsroom reported.
The third reason is evasion. Operators take a reported channel private or reopen it under a new handle, and bots come back within minutes, a pattern traced on bots that respawn after removal. Keep the original links: a second report that can point at the first channel is a stronger case than a fresh complaint. And if a badge appears where you expected a removal, the case landed as a warning, which is how the SCAM and FAKE labels work.
What Telegram Ban Service does with a whole-channel case
Telegram Ban Service works from identifiers before screenshots. We record the @username and t.me link while the channel is still public, pick the two or three posts that show the breach most plainly, and write the comment so a moderator can check the claim in under a minute. The channel is then filed at both levels, profile and posts, and illegal material also goes to [email protected] or the EU form. Where money moved or someone is at risk, the police route runs alongside rather than after.
Telegram Ban Service files and escalates the report; Telegram's moderators make the decision on the channel. Channels that operate within the rules are never targeted, and coordinated volume filing is refused, since it breaches Telegram's terms on its own and gets discounted. File the channel from its profile first, then the posts, and keep every link you copied. Send the email only when the content is illegal rather than unpleasant, and go to the police when money or safety is involved. If the channel returns under a new name, contact the desk with the old links and the new one.

FAQ
Should you report a Telegram group on Reddit?
No. Reddit has no connection to Telegram's moderation, so a thread there reaches other readers and nobody who can act. Reposting a group's invite link there can even hand it new members. Report inside Telegram instead, and email [email protected] if the content is illegal.
Does reporting a channel also report the account that runs it?
Not automatically. A channel and its owner are separate objects in Telegram, so a channel report leaves the owner's account untouched. If the same person also messages people directly, report that account from its own profile and paste the channel's link into the comment, which lets a reviewer connect the two.
Can you report a Telegram channel's profile photo on its own?
Telegram's API has a dedicated method for it, account.reportProfilePhoto, which takes the photo, a reason and a comment. Where your app exposes it the option sits with the photo itself; where it does not, report the channel and describe the photo in the comment box.
Will leaving the group cancel a report you already filed?
Nothing in Telegram's documentation withdraws a report once it is sent, and leaving is not described as a way to do it. Leaving does cost you access, though: a private group drops out of reach, along with the chance to report further posts from inside. Finish every report first, then leave.
Is reporting a Telegram channel the same as blocking it?
They are different tools. Blocking is personal and exists for accounts and bots, while a channel can only be muted or left. A report goes to Telegram's moderators and can end in a block that applies to everyone. If you simply want the channel out of your list, leave it; if it breaks the rules, report it before you go.
What does "This channel can't be displayed" mean after you report one?
It means Telegram has restricted the channel. The wording is sent by Telegram's servers together with a reason code such as terms or porno, rather than being built into the app. It is the clearest outside sign that a review happened, although Telegram never ties it to any one report, and the restriction can cover some platforms only.
Do you have to be in the EU to use Telegram's illegal-content form?
The form at telegram.org/dsa-report exists for users in the European Union, and when it was checked from outside the EU this month, the address redirected to Telegram's homepage. Everyone else has the in-app Report button and [email protected], and neither of those asks where you are before accepting a report.
