Inside the Telegram username market: what 500 Fragment auctions show

The Telegram username market is Fragment (fragment.com), an auction site where collectible usernames are bought and sold in Grams on the TON blockchain. Auctions run seven days from the first bid, each bid must beat the last by 5%, Fragment keeps 5% of every sale, and ownership sits in your crypto wallet, not your Telegram account.

Telegram username market on Fragment: 500 open auctions on 12 October 2026 by username length

Most write-ups of the Telegram usernames market repeat the same three record sales from 2022 and stop there. We wanted to know what the board looks like on an ordinary Monday. So on 12 October 2026 we opened Fragment signed out, read all 500 rows the auctions tab listed, opened one auction page, and then read the About page and the Terms of Service line by line. No wallet was connected and no bid was placed. The numbers below come from that reading. Because this desk handles reports and recoveries, we also looked for the part buyers tend to skip: what a ban, a deletion or a hijack does to a name you paid for.

What is the Telegram username market, and who runs it?

It is one website. Telegram's own FAQ says collectible names "can be bought and sold through third-party platforms like Fragment", and Fragment's Terms name the operator as Fragment Corp., registered in the Seychelles under company number 221287. Decrypt reported the launch on 27 October 2022, with minimum bids starting at 126 Toncoin. Telegram added app support in its "Topics in Groups, Collectible Usernames" update shortly after.

People reach it under many names. Searches for a telegram username marketplace, for "fragments telegram username" and for a telegram nft username all end at fragment.com. Prices there are quoted in Grams, the label Fragment's pages now use for the TON blockchain's coin; older coverage quotes the same figures in Toncoin. The collectible usernames Telegram supports are a second kind of name sitting next to the ordinary one, and the difference matters before you spend anything.

What was on the Telegram usernames auction board on 12 October 2026?

The auctions tab showed 500 rows, sorted by price, and 500 looks like the page's cap. Read it as the top of the board, not a census. Three quarters of it was cheap: 370 of the 500 names had a minimum bid under 200 Grams, and the median was 118. Fragment's own converter put 15,000 Grams at about $21,721 that morning, so 118 Grams was roughly $170.

The expensive end was narrow. Sixty-four names sat at 5,000 Grams or more, and 60 of those were four-character names such as @clon, @tg66 and @mert, all opening between 5,361 and 6,195. That is about $7,800 for a name the app will not let you register. Only 25 rows carried a Resale tag, meaning a name already sold once. The other 475 were being sold for the first time.

Added together, the 500 minimum bids came to 475,781 Grams, a little under $690,000 at that day's rate. One sold name, @news, went for more than twice that many Grams on its own in 2022.

How does a Telegram username auction on Fragment work?

Every Telegram username auction Fragment hosts follows the same clock, and the About page spells it out. A listed name waits "for an unlimited time" until someone places the first bid. That bid starts a seven-day auction.

  1. Connect two things. A TON wallet such as Tonkeeper or MyTonWallet, and your Telegram account through the Connect Telegram widget.
  2. Place a Telegram username bid. It must meet the minimum shown on the page. On @telepath that morning the highest bid was 15,000 Grams, the bid step 750 (5%), so the next minimum was 15,750.
  3. Get outbid, get refunded. Fragment says the earlier bidder's Grams "will be refunded automatically", normally within seconds.
  4. Watch the end. A bid that does not reach the blockchain before the auction closes is returned and does not count.
  5. Collect. The wallet behind the highest bid receives the name. Allow up to 30 minutes for it to appear under My Assets.

Two details catch sellers out. An owner can cancel only before the first bid; after that the conversion "is permanent and cannot be reversed". And a seller may set an optional maximum price that ends the auction at once when someone pays it.

What does it cost to buy and sell Telegram usernames?

Fragment describes itself as free to use and then lists its charges in the FAQ. For anyone who wants to buy and sell usernames Telegram points to this single venue, so these are the only official fees there are.

Telegram username buy sell fees at a glance

ChargeAmountWho pays, and when
Platform fee5%Taken from every sale: direct sales and the winning bid of an auction
Conversion fee5 Grams, flatDeducted once, when a basic name is first auctioned and becomes a collectible
Blockchain feeAbout 1 GramNetwork cost on transactions, outside Fragment's control
Offer on a "Taken" name"A small non-refundable fee"The would-be buyer. The price typed in is not binding
Bot upgradeOne-time fee, amount not publishedOwner who wants the name on a bot. The upgrade stays with the name

Transfers between wallets cost nothing beyond the network fee, which is how private deals happen off the board. Identity checks are a grey area. Neither the About page nor the Terms we read mention them, yet GNcrypto reported in November 2024 that Fragment had begun requiring KYC to purchase usernames, Premium and Stars. Expect to be asked.

Is a Telegram NFT username really yours forever?

The wallet record is. Section 1.2 of the Terms says ownership "is therefore permanent and cannot be revoked, even by Company", and for the same reason "all purchases are non-refundable". A telegram username nft is a token in your wallet, so losing your phone, number or session does not lose the name. Losing the wallet's seed words does, and Fragment says plainly it cannot restore them.

The link to Telegram is a different matter. Section 8.1, headed "Unilateral Removal", warns that if an account is deleted, restricted or otherwise inaccessible, "it may potentially become impossible to link such a username" to it, and that the company "will not be liable and you will not be compensated". So the account still needs looking after:

What have the most expensive collectible usernames sold for?

Fragment's Sold tab, sorted by price, opened with @danbao at 1,583,948 Grams. Behind it came @news at 994,000, @auto at 900,000, @bank at 850,000, @avia at 800,000 and @chat at 700,000. The Block put the @news sale at about $1.7 million in November 2022 and reported Pavel Durov saying Fragment sales had passed $50 million in four weeks.

A second pattern sits further down the same list. @nike sold for 330,000, @amazon for 262,500, @adidas for 250,000, @jpmorgan for 168,000 and @visa for 150,000. Nothing on Fragment says who bought them, and nothing in its Terms mentions trademarks at all. ForkLog covered one dispute: @dodopizza was bought for 1,865 TON in 2022 and resold for 70,000, and the pizza chain's franchisor sued Telegram in a Russian arbitration court in April 2024. ForkLog's last update, that July, reported no ruling.

Compare that with Meta, which gives brand owners a form. Our notes on Instagram's trademark infringement report, on an Instagram DMCA takedown and on a formal Instagram legal request show what a rights-based route looks like when one exists. For a telegram collectible username there is no such form.

Which names on the board should make you careful?

Some of what was open for bids read like a fraud glossary. On 12 October the board listed @solscam at 1,239 Grams, @banklogin at 630, @robbers at 594, @breaching and @credential at 592, @ransomer at 591 and @frauder at 577, with @phishingscam, @cryptolocker and @hacklink between 115 and 119. A name is not a violation. Telegram acts on conduct: a channel that phishes, impersonates or sells stolen data can be reported whatever its handle cost.

The commoner risk runs the other way, toward owners of good names. The pattern described on crypto forums is an unsolicited message offering thousands of Toncoin for your username, followed by a link to a bot or mini app dressed up as Fragment that asks you to connect a wallet or pay a "commission" first. Real offers arrive inside fragment.com, anonymously, and cost the buyer a fee, not you. If a bought name is being used to pose as you, Telegram's FAQ gives one instruction: contact @NoToScam. The in-app Report button and [email protected] are the other official routes.

Can you get a taken Telegram username without paying?

Sometimes, if it is a basic name. Telegram's FAQ says it can help you acquire a taken basic username "provided that you have that same username on at least two of these services: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram", and that it reserves the right to recall names "assigned to unused bots and channels, as well as openly squatted usernames". Requests go to @Username_bot.

Once a name is a collectible, that door is shut. The same FAQ says such names "can only be managed by their respective owners". What remains is Fragment's Make an offer button on a name marked Taken. The owner may answer by opening a public auction at any minimum they like, and you then bid against everyone else. Sellers face a gate too. Fragment says Telegram can refuse a listing when the account has no two-step password or set one too recently, when the name was acquired or moved lately, or when Telegram has "other reasons to believe you might be acting in bad faith".

Is there anything like the Telegram username market on Instagram or X?

Not on Instagram, whose terms bar buying, selling or transferring any part of an account, the username included. X opened a Handle Marketplace in October 2025, but its terms say X "retains ownership of the Handle at all times", so what you get there is closer to a licence. On both platforms a name dispute is settled by reporting, and the right report depends on what the other account is doing.

What the other account is doingWhere to start
Copying your name and photos on InstagramSomeone impersonating you on Instagram, or for a fake business profile, an Instagram page report
Taking money under your brandReporting a scammer on Instagram
Posting your imageA picture of you posted on Instagram without permission, or reporting a single Instagram post
Threatening or hounding youReporting harassment on Instagram; if money is demanded, the Instagram blackmail report route
Breaking the rules in a way you can documentHow to report someone on Instagram, then getting an Instagram account taken down for a real violation
The same thing on XHow a Twitter account actually gets taken down and what gets someone suspended on Twitter

Reporters usually have their own worries. We cover whether the person finds out who reported them on Instagram, un-reporting an Instagram post you flagged by mistake, and what happens after you report someone on Twitter. The limits are worth knowing as well: whether you can delete someone else's Instagram account (you can't; only Meta can), what an Instagram account removal service can and can't do, and why Instagram mass-report bots advertised on GitHub and Telegram don't deliver. For help with a genuine case, see our Instagram ban service page and the Twitter ban service explainer.

What should you check before you place a bid?

Reading the board for an hour left us with a short list. None of it is investment advice; it is the fine print in the order it tends to bite.

  • The address bar. Bids happen on fragment.com after you connect a wallet yourself. A link sent in a chat is not the telegram collectible usernames market, however good the copy looks.
  • The wallet. Fragment asks you to double-check which wallet is connected, because the collectible goes to the wallet that paid.
  • Finality. "All purchases are final." Fragment will not swap a name, reverse a sale or refund a mistaken one.
  • The second switch. Assigning a name on Fragment does not show it on Telegram. You enable it separately in Settings, and the app must be version 9.1 or later.
  • The name itself. A brand word you have no claim to can be bought, but nothing in the Terms protects you if its owner complains to Telegram.
  • The exit. Reselling costs another 5%, and most of the board that Monday sat near the floor with one bid or none.

FAQ

Is Fragment owned by Telegram?

Fragment's Terms name Fragment Corp., a Seychelles company, as owner and operator, and Telegram's FAQ calls Fragment a third-party platform. Telegram supplies the features a collectible unlocks, such as showing the name on a profile or channel.

How long does a Telegram username auction last?

Seven days from the first bid. A listed name can wait without a clock for as long as nobody bids. Each later bid must exceed the last by the 5% bid step, and the seller cannot cancel once the first bid is in.

What fee does Fragment take when you sell a username?

5% of the sale price, on direct sales and on the winning bid of an auction. A basic username auctioned for the first time also pays a flat 5 Gram conversion fee, once. Network fees of about 1 Gram are separate.

Can Telegram take back a collectible username?

Fragment's Terms say wallet ownership cannot be revoked, even by the company. What can change is the link to Telegram: if the account using the name is banned or deleted, it may become impossible to attach the name to that account, and no compensation is paid.

What is the shortest username you can buy?

Four characters. Basic usernames set in the app need at least five, so four-character names exist only as collectibles. On 12 October 2026 the 60 four-character names on the auction board opened between 5,361 and 6,195 Grams.

Can I sell the username I already use on Telegram?

Yes. Fragment lets you put any basic username from your profile, public group or channel up for auction with a minimum bid you choose. Telegram can refuse the listing if the account has no two-step password, or if the name was acquired or moved recently.

Someone messaged me offering to buy my username. Is it real?

Treat it as suspect. Genuine offers are made on fragment.com, reach you anonymously and cost the buyer a small fee. A message that sends you to a bot, a mini app or another site to connect a wallet or pay a commission is the usual scam pattern.

What can I do if a bought username is impersonating me?

Buying a name does not exempt an account from Telegram's rules. Telegram's FAQ says to contact @NoToScam when a scammer is pretending to be you. You can also use the in-app Report button on the profile or channel and write to [email protected] with the link and screenshots.
