Telegram ban: four kinds, and who issued yours

A Telegram ban can come from four places. Telegram itself bans accounts and blocks channels and groups for breaking its Terms. A group admin can ban you from one group. And the CAS list, run by the Combot bot, auto-bans flagged spammers in groups that use it. Each one has a different fix.

"I got a Telegram ban" covers very different events. Some people can't log in at all. Others are thrown out of a single group, or find a channel they followed gone, or get kicked the moment they join any group run by the same bot. Being Telegram banned from the app, a ban on Telegram for one channel, and a ban inside one group are not the same thing. They aren't issued by the same party, and they don't end the same way. Whether you want to understand a banned Telegram account or want to ban Telegram content that is hurting you, the first question is who acts. On 22 October 2026 we read Telegram's moderation page, privacy policy, Terms and FAQs, plus the CAS site, to sort them out.

Who issued your Telegram ban?

Start with the issuer, because that tells you which rules applied and who can lift it. Only one of the four bans below comes from Telegram's own moderators.

Telegram ban types by issuer: Telegram account ban, Telegram channel or group block, group admin ban and CAS ban
BanIssued byWhat you seeReach
Account ban or limitTelegram moderatorsLogged out, or can't message strangersThe whole app
Channel or group blockTelegram moderators"Can't be displayed", or the chat is goneThat chat, for everyone
Admin banOne group's adminsRemoved, can't rejoin that groupOne group only
CAS banCombot's anti-spam listAuto-kicked from groups that use CASEvery CAS-protected group

If you can still open Telegram and chat with friends, it isn't an account ban. If only some groups remove you on arrival, and those groups use the Combot bot, it's almost certainly CAS. For the account side, our page on what triggers each Telegram penalty walks through limits, freezes and number blocks in detail; this page covers the rest.

What is CAS ban in Telegram?

CAS stands for Combot Anti-Spam. It is not run by Telegram. The CAS site describes it as an automated system that detects spammers in Telegram groups using the Combot bot, and other bot developers can plug the same list into their own bots.

How it works: if a user with any spam record joins a CAS-secured group, the bot bans that user immediately. Detection is automated, "without human factor" in the site's words, and group admins can't add anyone to the list themselves. The CAS site calls these bans non-negotiable: Combot's community managers won't remove them, but they say bans are removed automatically after some time. So if you're asking what is CAS ban in Telegram because you keep getting kicked from crypto or trading groups, your account is fine. Telegram hasn't touched it. A third-party list has, and only groups running that list will act on it. The CAS site has a query page where you can look up your user ID.

Can a group admin ban you on Telegram?

Only for their own group. An admin ban removes you from that one group and stops you rejoining it, but it doesn't follow you anywhere else and Telegram doesn't record it against your account. Admins can be as strict as they like; the group's rules are theirs. If it was a mistake, the only door is the admins themselves. Telegram support doesn't overrule an admin's choice of members.

Is there a Telegram ban wave right now?

Not in the sense people mean. When a "telegram ban wave" post spreads, it usually describes accounts limited or frozen on the same day. Telegram doesn't announce waves. What it does publish is a running count on the Telegram moderation page, and that count rises every day.

Telegram bans counter: 27,126,529 groups and channels blocked on 6 October 2026, 28,314,664 on 22 October

We've read that counter three times this month: 27,126,529 groups and channels blocked in 2026 on 6 October, 28,235,038 on 21 October, and 28,314,664 on 22 October. That's 79,626 in the last single day, and about 74,300 a day across the 16 days. Of the 2026 total, 460,906 were child-abuse groups and channels and 190,219 terrorist communities. The page says moderation has combined user reports with machine-learning monitoring since 2015 and added AI tools in early 2024. The counter doesn't cover personal accounts at all. So a burst of complaints doesn't prove a wave; it proves that tens of thousands of chats go every day. When a telegram ban reddit thread fills with "me too", look for what the accounts had in common, like the same group, the same bulk tool or the same batch of bought numbers.

Why is Telegram banning channels and groups?

For what's in them. Telegram banning channels is aimed at public chats that host scams, illegal goods, child-abuse material, terrorist content, or violence and porn in public view. Those categories come from the Telegram Terms of Service, and the Terms add a clause for fake giveaways: such channels can be terminated or labelled as scams. There's no secret telegram channel ban method beyond that list. A channel goes when its content breaks those rules and someone reports it or the filters catch it.

The same counter answers part of "telegram bans" questions about channels: almost all of the 28 million entries are chats, not people. Owners of a blocked channel may keep their account if they weren't the problem, and lose it if they were.

Telegram channel deleted or blocked: how do you tell?

Look at what's left. A Telegram channel deleted by its owner simply vanishes from your list, and its link stops working. A channel blocked by Telegram often stays in the list but won't open, with a line saying it can't be displayed; our page on why a channel can't be displayed decodes those messages. A Telegram group deleted by its creator disappears for every member at once. A group blocked by Telegram behaves like a blocked channel.

There's a third case. If the channel was yours, an owner who deletes their own account doesn't take the channel with them: the Telegram FAQ says groups and channels are left without a creator, and admins keep their rights.

Is Telegram deleting accounts?

Yes, but mostly the inactive ones. Telegram deleting accounts is usually self-destruction: the Telegram privacy policy says accounts that don't come online for 18 months are deleted by default, with their messages, media and contacts, and you can change that period in Privacy and Security settings. So is Telegram deleting accounts in a purge? No. Old accounts that went quiet in early 2025 simply reach the cut-off this autumn.

Telegram banning accounts is a separate action. A banned account loses access; a deleted one loses its data. Does a banned Telegram account get deleted? Telegram doesn't publish a timeline for that. What it does say is that a frozen account can be appealed in the app, and a deleted one can't be brought back by anyone. If yours is banned rather than gone, recovering a banned Telegram account lists the appeal routes in order. If you're stuck on a message cap instead, the Telegram limit exceeded error isn't a ban at all.

Does Telegram report banned accounts to the police?

Not as a rule. Section 8.3 of the privacy policy says Telegram acts on a valid order from judicial authorities naming a user as a suspect in criminal activity that breaks its Terms. After a legal check it may then disclose that user's IP address and phone number. It says such cases go in its quarterly transparency report at t.me/transparency. So does Telegram report banned accounts? A ban alone doesn't trigger disclosure; a court order does. Separately, the moderation page says Telegram checks public images against a database of known child-abuse material, and that category is where cooperation with outside bodies is most active.

How many reports to get banned on Telegram?

There is no number. Telegram has never published a report threshold, and its spam FAQ says reported messages go to moderators who decide whether they broke the rules. A hundred reports about an account that did nothing wrong should end in nothing. One report about a scam can end the account. The same goes for how many report to close Telegram channel: the content decides, not the count. Telegram's EU notice page goes further and says it may stop processing notices from people who keep filing manifestly unfounded ones.

That's also the honest answer to how to get a Telegram account banned, or how to delete someone's Telegram account. You can't delete another person's account, and nobody outside Telegram can. What you can do is report the content that breaks the rules: open the chat, tap the name, choose Report, pick the reason, and send the evidence. If it's a scam, add the payment details you were asked for. Then block the account. Anyone selling a "guaranteed" account removal is selling a promise only Telegram could keep.

How to delete Telegram group without admin rights?

You can't. Only the creator can delete a group. Admins can remove members and messages if the creator gave them those rights, and an ordinary member can only leave. If a group is harmful, report it from the group's menu: Telegram can block it for everyone, which has the same effect as deletion from the outside. If you are the creator and want it gone, open the group's settings and choose Delete Group, which removes it for all members.

How do bans work on other apps?

Telegram is unusual in having a third-party list like CAS sitting on top of its own moderation. Elsewhere the platform holds all of it. On WhatsApp, the steps to report a WhatsApp contact run through the chat, and what WhatsApp does after a report explains which messages it receives. Instagram splits by problem: reporting an Instagram profile, an Instagram impersonator using your photos and Instagram harassment reports. X has its own: what an X report triggers, the X impersonation form and trademark complaints on X.

Facebook has the most routes. Reporting a Facebook profile starts on the profile, a single Facebook post report targets one post, who learns your name after a Facebook report depends on where you filed, Facebook's fake-account route has its own form, reporting a scam on Facebook follows the money, Meta's copyright claim form is a legal notice, and getting a Facebook account taken down depends on whose it is. Snapchat has reporting a Snapchat profile and reporting a person on Snapchat. TikTok has reporting a TikTok user and flagging one TikTok video. YouTube has reporting a whole YouTube channel, reporting a scam YouTube ad, what YouTube counts as harassment, YouTube's privacy complaint process and blocking a YouTube user.

What to do next, by issuer

Name the issuer first. An admin ban: ask the admins. A CAS ban: look up your ID and wait it out. A channel or group block: check what the chat posted, because Telegram blocks chats for content. An account ban or freeze: use the appeal inside the app or the support routes, and write plainly what happened. Ignore anyone in your messages offering to lift a ban for a fee. No outside party can lift a Telegram ban, and those offers are scams of their own.

FAQ

Does a CAS ban affect my Telegram account?

No. CAS is a list run by the Combot bot, not by Telegram. It only matters in groups that use Combot or the CAS API, which kick listed users when they join. Your chats, contacts and other groups work as normal.

How long does a CAS ban last?

The CAS site doesn't give a fixed period. It says bans can't be removed by Combot's community managers but are removed automatically after some time.

Why did a Telegram channel I follow disappear?

Either its owner deleted it, or Telegram blocked it. A deleted channel vanishes from your list; a blocked one usually stays but won't open and shows a message that it can't be displayed.

Does Telegram tell you why it banned your account?

Usually only in general terms. Limits and freezes show a notice in the app, and @SpamBot explains spam limits. Telegram doesn't publish which report or message led to a ban.

Can a banned Telegram account still receive messages?

A frozen account can still read its chats but can't send. A fully banned account is logged out, so messages sent to it aren't delivered to anyone who can read them.

Do Telegram bans apply to the phone number?

Sometimes. Telegram identifies users by phone number, so a serious ban can stop that number from registering again. A CAS or admin ban never touches the number.
