Telegram nude blackmail scam: how the video call trap works and what to do in the first hour
A Telegram nude blackmail scam is sextortion run through Telegram: a stranger gets an intimate image or a recording of you, often from a video call, then threatens to send it to your contacts unless you pay. Do not pay, save the chat and the @username, report the account in Telegram, block it, and tell the police.
If you are reading this with a threat sitting in your Telegram chats, start with one fact: you are not the first, and the person messaging you is running a script, not a personal grudge. The same lines go to thousands of people. This page is only about that script, the nude image threat and the video call that usually produces it. Threats over money owed, fake shops and other extortion have their own route on our page on reporting Telegram extortion and counterfeit sellers.
We wrote it in the order you'll need it: what is happening, what the scammer really holds, what to do in the next hour, how to report it on Telegram, and how to get an image taken down if it was posted. On 22 October 2026 Telegram's moderation page counted 28,314,766 groups and channels blocked so far this year, 460,906 of them for child abuse material. Reports do get read.
What is a Telegram nude blackmail scam?
A Telegram nude blackmail scam, also called a Telegram sextortion scam, is a threat to share sexual images or video of you unless you pay or send more. The image may be real, taken from a video call or from photos you sent. It may be fake, made by an AI tool from a normal photo. Or it may not exist at all. Most Telegram sextortion scams are about money, usually asked for in gift cards, crypto or a bank transfer. The scammer is rarely the person in the profile photo. These are organised operations that run the same chat on many victims at once.
People search for it as a Telegram nude scam, a Telegram sex scam or a Telegram blackmail scam, but it is one crime with a few openings. Under-18s are a main target. The US National Center for Missing & Exploited Children says it received more than 50,000 reports of financial sextortion in 2025, and most child victims are teenage boys.
How does the Telegram video call scam work?
The Telegram video call scam is the most common way these threats start. The contact begins elsewhere: a dating app match, a follow on Instagram, a message in a big Telegram group. The match is flirty and fast. Within hours comes the move: "let's talk on Telegram, it's more private." Then a video call. On the other side is a looped or pre-recorded clip of an attractive person, sometimes with the camera "broken" so they can only type. They push you to undress or touch yourself on camera.
While you do, they screen-record the call. Within seconds of hanging up you get the clip back, next to a screenshot of your Instagram followers or Facebook friends, and a demand. A Telegram scam video call takes about ten minutes. The whole Telegram video scam, from first message to the demand, often fits inside one evening.
Telegram video call scams work because the recording feels like proof. Remember what it really is: a clip they made of a call they set up. The person you were talking to was never there.
The voice call version: a Telegram call scam with no video at all
A second kind of Telegram call scam uses no video. A stranger rings over Telegram, or messages after a missed call, and says they "hacked your camera", have "footage of you on adult sites", or are "police" with a case against you. They may quote an old password from a data leak to sound real. This Telegram scam call is a bluff. There is no recording. If nobody ever saw you on camera and you never sent an image, the threat has nothing behind it, and the right answer is to report, block and ignore.
Real recording or bluff: what does the blackmailer actually hold?
Fear makes every threat sound the same. They are not. Before deciding anything, work out which of these you're dealing with:
| What they say | What usually exists | How to tell |
|---|---|---|
| "I recorded our video call" | A real screen recording | They send a clip or still from the call |
| "I'll send your nudes to everyone" | Photos you sent in the chat | You know you sent them |
| "I have your naked photos" (you sent none) | An AI fake from a public photo, or nothing | Your face on a body that isn't yours, or no image shown |
| "I hacked your camera" | Nothing | No clip ever arrives, only an old password |
| "I have your follower list" | A screenshot of a public list | Anyone can see it if your account is public |
| "I'm the police, pay the fine" | Nothing | Police don't take fines over Telegram |
Even when the recording is real, the contact list is the scammer's only lever. That's why the steps below start by taking the lever away. If the image is an AI fake, the report route is close to reporting Telegram deepfake bots and their output.
What to do in the first hour
- Do not pay and do not send anything else. Not money, not gift cards, not "one more photo".
- Stop replying. You don't need to argue, plead or explain. Silence is fine.
- Save the evidence first. Screenshot the chat with dates, the profile, the @username and the t.me link. Write down any payment details they gave. Don't delete the chat yet. On Desktop, Export chat history saves it as a file.
- Report the account in Telegram, then block it. The next section shows where.
- Lock down your accounts. Make your Instagram and Facebook friend lists private, set Telegram's phone number privacy to Nobody, and turn on a two-step password.
- Tell one person you trust. Then tell the police. In the US you can also file at the FBI's IC3 complaint centre.
- If you are under 18, tell a parent or another adult you trust, and use NCMEC's CyberTipline. You will not be in trouble.
If the scammer also took over your account, for example by asking for a code "to verify you", secure it first with the steps to take back a hijacked Telegram account.
Why paying never ends Telegram sextortion scams
Paying tells the scammer two things: you are scared, and you can pay. Victim accounts on forums and in police warnings follow the same pattern. The first payment is followed by a second demand, often bigger, with a new excuse: "my boss wants more", "pay to delete the copy". In most cases where people refuse and block, the scammer moves on to the next target, because their time is worth more spent on someone who will pay. Nobody can promise that, but paying is the one choice that reliably makes it last longer.
There is also no "delete" a scammer can prove. A file you pay to remove can still sit on their phone. Your money buys nothing they can deliver.
How to report sextortion on Telegram
Here is how to report sextortion on Telegram from inside the chat. Open the chat with the account. Tap its name at the top, open the menu (three dots), and choose Report. On a single message, press and hold it on iPhone, tap it on Android, or right-click it on Desktop, then pick Report. Choose the reason that fits best. If the images show a child, pick Child Abuse. Otherwise pick the closest reason, and add a short note: "sextortion: threatening to share intimate images unless I pay".
To report sextortion on Telegram for content that is already public in a channel or group, report the post in the app and also email abuse@telegram.org, Telegram's takedown address, with the t.me link to each post. For anything involving someone under 18, Telegram's moderation page lists stopCA@telegram.org. Never attach the image itself to an email. Send the link only.
Report sextortion Telegram accounts even if you think nothing will happen. Reported accounts get limited, and an account reported by many users can be marked with a Scam label that warns its next target. Then block.
Telegram blackmail report for groups, channels and bots
Some operations post "leaked" images in a channel to pressure victims, or use a bot to deliver the threat. A Telegram blackmail report about a channel or group goes through the channel's menu: open it, tap its name, then Report. A bot is reported the same way as a person. If you need more than one route, the Telegram fraud report guide lists every one. That is how to report blackmail on Telegram when the threat comes from more than one account: report each one, and keep a list of every @username you see.
Telegram leak removal: getting the image taken down
Telegram leak removal depends on where the image ended up and how old you were in it.
If you were under 18 in the image, use NCMEC's Take It Down. It makes a digital fingerprint of the image on your own device, so the image itself is never uploaded, and participating apps use that fingerprint to find and remove copies. Check its list of participating apps, and report Telegram copies directly too.
If you were an adult, StopNCII works the same way for partner platforms. Telegram was not on its partner list when we last checked, so it does not cover Telegram. If the image shows up in Google results, Google has a removal request for intimate images shared without consent.
Once a leak is gone from Telegram, it may still sit on other apps. For Instagram, start with the Instagram blackmail report steps, which cover the follower-list threat. A single post goes through reporting one Instagram post, and an account built to share it goes through reporting a whole Instagram page. When an Instagram profile exists only to harass you, read what Instagram account removal can and can't reach. If you reported the wrong post in a panic, whether you can un-report an Instagram post answers that. A scam account copying a brand is a different case: see the Instagram trademark report.
When the threats spread to Facebook and WhatsApp
The friend-list screenshot usually comes from Facebook, so lock that list first. If the blackmailer messages your friends, reporting someone on Facebook for harassment is the route. A fake profile set up in your name goes through reporting a fake Facebook account, and a post that shares the image through the Facebook post report. Facebook's own scam reporting options fit the original dating profile. Wondering whether the scammer sees your name? Read whether a Facebook report is anonymous. When a profile exists only to spread it, see what taking down a Facebook account involves. If the scammer reposts a photo you took, a Facebook copyright claim can also remove it.
Threats often move to WhatsApp once the scammer has your number. Reporting someone on WhatsApp sends the last messages to WhatsApp, and what happens after a WhatsApp report explains whether they find out.
Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube and X
Many teenage cases start on Snapchat. How to report someone on Snapchat covers a single chat, and reporting a Snapchat account covers the whole profile. On TikTok, reporting a TikTok account handles the person and reporting a TikTok video handles a clip. If a video of you appears on YouTube, a YouTube privacy complaint is often faster than a normal report. YouTube's harassment policy covers threats in comments, and blocking someone on YouTube stops them commenting. Use the YouTube channel report for a channel and the YouTube ad report for a fake dating ad. On X, what X account removal needs covers a profile that keeps posting about you.

Who Telegram sex scams target, and why it isn't your fault
Telegram sex scams target people who are likely to feel shame and act fast: teenage boys, young men on dating apps, and people with a public job or family. NCMEC counted more than 50,000 financial sextortion reports in 2025, up from over 36,000 in 2024, and has linked dozens of teen deaths to these scams since 2021. The scam is designed to make you feel alone and out of time. Neither is true. Help lines, the police and the platforms see these cases every day, and none of them will judge you for a video call.
FAQ
Should I pay a Telegram sextortion scammer?
No. Paying almost always leads to a second, bigger demand, and nobody can prove they deleted a file. Stop replying, save the evidence, report the account, block it and tell the police.
Will the scammer really send my video to my contacts?
Sometimes they do, but most move on once a victim stops replying, because their time is better spent on someone who pays. Making your friend and follower lists private takes away the easiest way to do it.
Was the person on the Telegram video call real?
Almost never. Scammers play a looped or pre-recorded clip of someone else, or keep the camera off. The only real recording is the one they made of you.
How do I report sextortion on Telegram?
Open the chat, tap the account name, open the menu and choose Report, with a short note saying it is sextortion. Report public posts in the app and email abuse@telegram.org with the t.me link. For anyone under 18, use stopCA@telegram.org.
Can Telegram remove a leaked nude of me?
Yes, if it breaks Telegram's rules, which non-consensual intimate images do. Report each post and email the t.me links to abuse@telegram.org. If you were under 18, also use Take It Down and stopCA@telegram.org.
Is a Telegram call scam saying they hacked my camera real?
Almost always a bluff. If you never appeared on camera or sent an image, there is nothing to share. They may quote an old leaked password to sound real. Change that password, report the account and block it.
Should I delete the chat with the blackmailer?
Not straight away. Save screenshots or export the chat first, because police and Telegram's moderators need the @username, the messages and any payment details. Once it's saved, you can report, block and delete.
I'm under 18. Will I get in trouble for reporting?
No. You are the victim. Tell a parent or an adult you trust, and use NCMEC's CyberTipline or Take It Down. They help young people remove images and do not blame you.
